The political scene is heating up, and not just because of a display of democratic diversity or balance of power.
Rather, it seems that we are dealing with a flattening, or rather, a magic formula that more than political party, begins to look like an organized sect. On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the new members of the LXVI Legislature took protest.
Between applause and oaths, Morena and her allies now have a qualified majority in both chambers. And the opposition? Well, thank you. They panicked, of course. PRI, PAN, the National Civic Front and even the pink tide are running out of cards to play. But come on, it’s not just about numbers and seats, right? It’s about absolute control. With 127 votes in favor of the 128 legislators present, Morena did not.
And in the middle of this political feast, two PRD defectors, Araceli Saucedo and José Sabino Herrera, make their big debut in Morena, joining forces with the flattener. Interestingly, it seems that party loyalty is more negotiable than ever, as if we were watching a political tenderfoot. "Everything sells, everything is bought". Meanwhile, Olga Sánchez Cordero, with an air of resignation, has had to admit the obvious: they have overdone it in reforming the Constitution.
¡But of course! What better way to ensure control than by putting everything, absolutely everything, into the charter? In the eyes of all, they have turned our Constitution into a kind of operating manual that should be handled only by the "enlightened". Not the ILLUMINATIS, Chance? I don’t think so.
Secondary and regulatory laws are for mortals, the real magic is in constitutional amendments that require that cherished majority.
¡ A game worthy of a modern Maximato! Speaking of games, is there a de facto power coming? Perhaps. After all, between made-to-measure vice-presidencies and secretariats to be handed out like candy, one has to wonder whether there will really be political autonomy or whether we will simply see a series of vassals doing what they know best: "obey".
And here we are, waiting for the first 100 days of Claudia Sheinbaum in the presidency, hoping that it is not just an extension of what we have already seen. Because while some of her followers assure us that she will be a democratic ruler, who "will listen to all voices", we cannot help but wonder if those voices will really be heard or if they will simply be silenced by the echoes of the Morenist Flattener.
Is this the final chapter of our democracy or just another episode in a long series of political plots?
